5th May 2011 was a landmark day in Scottish politics. Alex Salmond, leader of the Scottish Nationalist Party, was elected as leader of a majority for the first time in modern history.
Having stated during the election that the party would present a referendum to allow the people to vote on the future of the Union, the new government have decided to hold that referendum in their final year of office.
The party has embarked upon a programme which will change Scotland radically; local government, education, health and transport all face a period of change and restructure.
The Scottish Government are also negotiating changes with their Westminster counterparts over financial and other new powers for the Parliament…
